Afternoons written down before they go quiet.

Tall view along a housing block corridor in late afternoon light.
Lorong Ah Soo — late afternoon

Welcome to the open side of this flat — the part of the afternoon when the corridor is still warm and the coffee shop fan has not yet been switched off. I am Yiling. I write small first-person notes about Hougang, Lorong Ah Soo, and the ordinary routes between my block and Kovan. Nothing here is a shop, a course, or a service desk. It is simply a shelf of paragraphs I did not want to lose.

I keep a daybook because the estate moves faster than memory. A bus route changes signage. A kopitiam uncle retires and the table by the window goes to someone new who wipes it differently. Writing slows the detail down — the laundry poles at four, the lift lobby soap, the neighbour's radio through the wall — long enough to notice.

Some notes are walks. Some are bus rides with empty seats. Some are afternoons at the table with kopi going cold while rain crosses the kitchen glass. One note, dated 12 November 2025, sits at the root of this site because it happened on a night I still carry differently. It is not labelled or badge-marked here. It looks like the others in the list below because that is what it is — another page in the notebook, placed at / because the URL landed there first.

If you prefer a full archive grouped by where I was when I wrote — on foot, on the bus, at the table — follow the plain link to the daybook. No buttons, no signup, no mailing list. Just reading.

I publish slowly. Dates on these notes are past afternoons and evenings, never future promises. When I update a line, I fix the wording, not the weather.

Start anywhere. The verandah is only the porch light — the daybook holds the shelves.

Hougang neighbourhood — the pin is approximate, not the flat door.
